My Experience with The Ubotie Wireless Keyboard

From the get-go, I was pleased to see that this model came with two additional keycaps, an upgrade from the blue version which only included one.

The keyboard is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS. For work I use Windows OS, and setting up and using the keyboard was a breeze. Even when it times out, the keyboard and mouse reconnect quickly. A single left click with the mouse and it’s moving instantly, and the keyboard responds immediately as I start typing.

However, I did notice some occasional lag or delay with the keyboard. On Windows, this lag is minimal, but on Mac, it occurs frequently. I'm currently waiting for a replacement keyboard to see if it resolves these issues.

Here are some scenarios illustrating the lag on Mac:

  • While typing, the keyboard stops responding but eventually catches up, without losing any words or letters.

  • When editing a blog post and alternating between the keyboard and mouse, the delete key often doesn’t work initially, requiring multiple presses or the use of backspace.

  • If I stop typing and then start again, the keys may stop responding one by one. For example, after making a typo and pressing backspace, the keyboard stops responding, and when I continue typing, the keys don’t work.

These connectivity issues only occur with my keyboard at home, which is connected to Mac OS. I will update this review once I receive the replacement to confirm whether my unit was defective or if this keyboard isn’t very Mac OS-friendly.

Update [6/10/2024 16:23 PM EST]

Once the new keyboard was set up, it connected like a charm. I haven’t experienced any connectivity issues so far, though I am typing this no less than five minutes out of the box. Somehow, the keyboard feels more responsive and the typing sound is clickier, in a good way. The space bar isn't as loud as the previous one either, which is a reassuring improvement.

The mouse is also softer to click and has a more satisfying click sound. Within the first ten minutes of using the replacement keyboard and mouse, I can already tell there have been some improvements compared to the first unit I had.

Overall, these enhancements make the Ubotie keyboard and mouse combo even more enjoyable to use, particularly for Mac users who may have experienced similar issues.

Is the Ubotie Keyboard Worth It?

Despite the occasional lags when connected to Mac OS, I genuinely enjoy this keyboard.

The vibrant colors add a beautiful pop of color to my desk, making it both a functional and aesthetic addition. The keys are responsive, and the click sounds are satisfying. While the space bar is the loudest key, its sound blends well with the others, adding to the overall tactile experience.

The mouse is responsive and more comfortable to use than the Magic Mouse. However, there is a tie between which is louder: the space bar or the left-click on the mouse.

Overall, at such an affordable price, it’s a fantastic buy, especially considering you get a full-sized keyboard and wireless mouse in one set for about $40.

If you’re using Windows OS, I rate this keyboard a 9 out of 10. It is fun to use, highly responsive, and the key clicks are incredibly satisfying. For Mac OS, I initially rated it a 6 out of 10 due to connectivity issues.

Update [6/10/2024 16:23 PM EST]

I am very pleased with the improvements made to the replacement keyboard. The new unit connected instantly, and everything I didn’t like about the first unit has been improved. The space bar has a more satisfying sound, the keys have a better texture and a clickier sound, and the mouse click is softer and more pleasing.

I now raise my rating for this keyboard on Mac OS to 9/10. The only feature that could make it even better is if the keyboard was backlit.

Should you decide to give this keyboard a try, let me know in the comments which color you got and what you think!
