3 Reasons YOU SHOULD be Journaling EVERY DAY!

Have you ever set time aside to journal, only to spend several minutes staring at a blank page? Or did you write for a while, only to feel like it was a complete waste of time? When we try to start a new habit, we have to remind ourselves WHY we want to acquire it in the first place. To make journaling a habit, you need to be clear about what exactly you want to get out of it and why it is important to you. Clarity isn’t a destination you arrive at, it’s a journey of constant refinement. We may feel a lack of clarity manifest in different ways, but journaling is a sure step to getting back on the right path.

  1. Outline Your Goals & Intentions

You may find it hard to get through your daily to-do list because life just puts all these obstacles in the way of you and each task. What if I told you that by making time to outline your goals and intentions in a journal, you would see an immediate increase in your overall productivity? Say goodbye to an unfinished to-do list, and say hello to clearly executed tasks. Journaling provides the clarity that we need to direct our efforts accordingly which leads to life-changing insights on how to move forward. The first step to understanding why you may be falling short of achieving your goals is to analyze yourself from an objective perspective.

  2. Get it Out

People piss us off all day. From unnecessary delays on the road to incompetent workers in our favorite retail shops, there is no shortage of irritating people or frustrating situations. How we overcome these moments of irritations is enough for a separate blog post, but there is catharsis in venting about these experiences. Instead of overloading someone with the weight of the emotions, you don’t understand, write in a journal. After all, Anne Frank once said, “paper is more patient than people.” Understanding your emotions is the key to understanding yourself. What good is it if you are upset or frustrated and can’t say why?

  3. Brainstorm Solutions

Either you have been struggling with writer's block or lack of inspiration, but you know the feeling of a dry creative episode. It is like pulling teeth to get an idea, never mind one that actually inspires you. Journaling allows you to brainstorm an idea from a different perspective and gain new insights. You can journal your way out of confusion by organizing your thoughts around the problem you need to solve. An objective understanding of a problem will clear the path to an effective solution.

Final Thoughts

Whether you want clarity on your goals and the path ahead, or you just need to clear the creative block preventing you from executing your best work, journaling can help you. Journaling is a great way to filter through the mental clutter and get closer to our creative essence. When you journal you get an objective perspective on the task at hand which makes it easier to move forward, especially if our emotions are getting in the way. Journaling is a great tool for everyone, whether you're a student or a stay-at-home mom with multiple kids. It’s a great way to seek clarity and stillness within, especially in a time of external chaos.
