“Do external things distract you? Then make time for yourself to learn something worthwhile; stop letting yourself be pulled in all directions…People who labor all their lives but have no purpose to direct every thought and impulse are wasting their time - even when hard at work.”
- Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (2.7)
Today’s insight comes from a quote from Marcus Aurelius. The path to excellence is the road less traveled and in today’s age of exponential technological advancement, we are also seeing the rise of distractions attempting to permeate every corner of our daily lives.
Focus your attention ONLY on what is essential and worthwhile. To be of this world is to be at the mercy of its ever-changing nature; a nature that cannot be controlled and is barely understood. Focus your attention on the actions you take towards the goals you are trying to reach. Optimize your time with intentional action. How are you going to make the most of the 24 hours allotted to you?
As Marcus Aurelius says, people who work hard without purpose or direction are wasting their time. Do you want the only time you have in this life to be wasted?
